Date & Time

Selected Sessions:

Jun 7, 2025 02:30 PM

Description
Donald J. Trump returned to the White House with a clear agenda on tariffs and trade. These issues will have an important economic impact on our economy, impacting: manufacturing, importing, retailing and consumer prices. Trump has called himself the “Tariff Man” and is proud of his tough trade actions against imports from China during his first presidency. What can we really expect on Trump 2.0, and how can we as lawyers play a role. The presenter will focus on cutting through what is myth and what is real in the hype about President Trump’s return. He was deeply involved in trade cases in the first Trump Administration and knows the cast of characters in the first Trump Administration and the new ones. What is likely to happen with China? With our closest allies in Mexico and Canada, and will this abrogate the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement, negotiated by Trump in his first term? Will Tariffs be increased across the board or selectively and how much of the tariff threat is simply negotiating strategy taken from Trump’s Book, “The Art of the Deal”. Attorneys in all practices areas may be affected by some of these policies and can learn of opportunities to impact them in what is likely to be a fast-moving environment in the new administration. Attendees are eligible to receive 1 hour of New York credit in the area of Professional Practice. Attorneys who practice outside New York may be eligible for reciprocal CLE credit. In person, this program is appropriate for newly admitted and experienced attorneys, but remotely, the program is only appropriate for experienced attorneys.
