Description
Join us to learn more about the River Herring and American Eel Volunteer Monitoring Survey and how you can get involved! Every year around springtime, river herring and American eels make their way upstream, and we need the help of volunteers to keep an eye out for them. This training will cover river herring and American eel basics, how to monitoring for them and record your data, and sites that need monitoring in Westchester, Queens, and along the north shore of Long Island. It is being hosted by the Long Island Sound Study (LISS) estuary program, New York Sea Grant (NYSG), and the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC). The River Herring and American Eel Volunteer Monitoring Survey is a program run by the Seatuck Environmental Association in collaboration with LISS, NYSG, NYSDEC, the Peconic Estuary Partnership, and the South Shore Estuary Reserve.
